.....Flintwood School (District 35) was located on Flintwood, north of Highway 86. The name Flintwood was chosen because Flint and Wood were the names of two local families. The district was formed in July of 1899, and the school was built around 1910. Average attendance was around 10 children, and students came from both Elbert and Douglas Counties.

.....In 1953 there were 8 boys and 3 girls attending the school, which closed in 1954. Students appear to have been sent to Parker. The school has since been moved or dismantled, and only a clump of oak brush remains on the original location.
